The Minister of Culture visits the artworks in “Art Liwan” at Darb Al-Saai:
As part of the National Day celebrations in Darb Al Saai, the “Art Liwan” event hosted a group of artists who have their artworks displayed in the Arts section. HE Sheikh Abdulrahman bin Hamad Al-Thani, Minister of Culture and Chairman of the Organizing Committee for National Day Celebrations, toured the exhibition, where he was listened from the artists about the content of their paintings, ceramic artifacts, Arabic calligraphy and Islamic decoration.
Hamid Abdullah Al-Qahtani, an artist , expressed his happiness to participate with his artworks in this year of the National Day celebrations, and he said that his participation is to hold workshops to teach the art of forming ceramics(pottery), in addition to the previous artworks displayed in the arts section, which symbolize the Qatari and Islamic culture. He added that he will provide 4 workshops during the National Day celebrations at Darb Al-Saai, explaining that the registration for the workshops is available on the website of the Ministry of Culture, Department of Visual Arts, pointing out that the number of registered people in the workshops exceeded all expectations as many of citizens and residents have registered to attend the workshops on making pottery. This indicates the great interest of the public in this type of art, which is an Arab and Islamic heritage, since ceramics were a daily use tool in every home, and then this field expanded to include making artifacts and artistic paintings that symbolize the cultures and identities of nations. Al-Qahtani said that the participation in the ceramics formation (pottery) using potter’s wheel is available every day for all, from 3:00 pm until the end of the day, as daily workshops are held for all Darb Al-Saai visitors.
Al-Qahtani called on all visitors to visit the Art Liwan event to learn about the types of arts and experience the art of forming pottery, which turned into an art that attracts the attention of a large group of people.
It is worth noting that the Art Liwan event includes many sections, including stamps and coins, arts exhibition, and workshops section. The program during the National Day celebrations at Darb Al-Saai includes many workshops such as simulating nature by typography, a workshop on contemporary artistic heritage inspired by the plants of the Qatari environment, a workshop on learning how to draw cartoon characters, a workshops on drawing decorative units on the camel’s body using colors, and a workshop for paintings inspired by the Qatari house with “gelatin” printing. In addition to a workshop on harmonizing Arabic letters with colors to form an artistic painting, and a workshop to learn about making mugs with the electric wheel and how to color them, as well as a workshop on contemporary artistic heritage using the “collage” method, and a workshop on a painting that reflects women in the past and decorative units of traditional clothing using the “monoprint” printing method.
